   The unions HAVE to change, or thier companies will go under. The auto companies will just continue to come to the taxpayers for money so people can make 100K/yr. to put in floor mats. Why did the government NOT bailout the carriage industry 100 years ago? Or the telegraph business?

    Senator Corker believes he is helping America by possibly eliminating 3 million American jobs. Have you ever heard anything so stupid in your life.     We just can’t let them go bankrupt right now….it would be a disaster for America…As for Union workers getting paid “to much”/more than engineer or teacher, i dont see any thing wrong witht what Union workers are getting paid. Do we really want to take issue with regular Americans making a good living? What about the CEO? You can go back and document the decline in average family income with the decline of Unions….you are better off with in numbers than alone.

    The ’southern republicans’ have bent over backwards for these foreign auto mfgs to locate within their respective states. They’ve provided infrastructure, tax abatements, and a promise of NO UNION labor. To ensure Toyota, Nissan, Honda, BMW, etc: remain union free, they want to dismantle the UAW’s contract with the Big3. If you take the pressure to unionize off the transplant workers by hurting the UAW, you’ve kept your promise. To me, this is anti-American by self-serving elected officials.

    I dont care how much foreign out workers get paid in the south. The big three to pay too much for labor. They will not survive, even after the bail out, if they have such ridiculous costs. The golden era of GM is over…so the golden salaries and benefits need to be adjusted accordingly. I dont want tax dollars to be paying for people who are not willing to make sacrifices to save their own companies. How can you justify a union worker getting paid more than a teacher or an engineer?

    What part of this crisis does the REST of America not understand????? The auto companies employ 1 in 10 jobs in this country directly and 1 in 5 indirectly. If the auto companies go belly up, it will affect the suppliers who supply the big 3 PLUS toyota Honda, Nissan and the tanks and jeeps that are used to fight the wars in Iraq and AFghanistan. This is a LOAN, not a bailout for Christ sake. What has become of the mindset of this country. Have our young people become THAT IGNORANT? God Help us
